Students go to the Smartboard™ to show different strategies for adding two three-digit numbers. Two students use breaking up the numbers as their main strategy to make the problem simpler. One student only breaks up one number. A third student tries to apply the Principle of Balance and the teacher uses the “teachable moment” to teach him (and the class) the Principle of Zero.
