Video Description: Teaching Problem Solving, Decimals, Fractions and Percent through the Weekly Graph (Grades 4 – 8)
This problem is rich in teaching opportunities. It illustrates the value of using student collected data to help make meaning and motivate students to learn a complex set of ideas. A grade four class follows up using the hundred squares to create decimals, equivalent fractions and percents in their quest to explore the data collected about their favourite pizza. In their exploration they discover three of the four principles they will need to be successful at high school algebra.
